About H.Z. Buildworks
Before H.Z. was H.Z., Ryan Hayes and Rick Zumbrun worked independently as contractors on California’s North Coast, with roots in the trade reaching back to the 1980s. After years of admiring one another’s work and shared approach to craftsmanship, and becoming friends through a mutual love of the trade, the outdoors, and fly-fishing, the idea to form a team was born.
Now, they each bring a unique skill set to the team, expanding what they can offer while continuing their shared commitment to heritage craftsmanship, quality, and sustainable building.
But H.Z. is not just about its founders. It is about the team — the dedicated craftspeople and career builders who chose this work because they love it too. We are proud of the people we get to call our colleagues, and the skill, care, and commitment they bring to every project.
